Daesung’s career began in 2006 with Big Bang, a group that played a crucial role in the Hallyu wave and brought K-pop to international prominence. Big Bang quickly achieved critical and commercial success with hits like “Haru Haru,” “Lies,” and “Last Farewell.” Over the years, the group continued to release iconic tracks such as “Fantastic Baby,” “Blue,” “Monster,” and “Bang Bang Bang,” solidifying their status as a pioneering force in K-Pop both in South Korea and globally.
Apart from his work with Big Bang, Daesung has been involved in various entertainment ventures. From 2008 to 2010, he was a beloved cast member on the SBS variety show “Family Outing,” where he showcased his comedic talents. He also hosted shows like “Night After Night” and “D’splay” and participated in the musical drama “What’s Up” in 2010.
Daesung’s solo music career has seen notable success as well. His debut trot single, “Look at me, Gwisoon” (2008), was a number-one hit, and he followed it with “Cotton Candy” (2010), which charted at #6 in South Korea. Japanese Music Career
Daesung’s impact extended beyond South Korea with his activities in Japan, where he performed under the stage name D-Lite. His Japanese discography includes the studio albums “D’scover” (2013) and “D’slove” (2014), as well as several extended plays like “Delight” (2014), “D-Day” (2017), and “Delight 2” (2017). Daesung’s Japanese solo tours have been highly successful, with his first solo dome tour in 2017 drawing 150,000 attendees across four shows. “D-Day” became his second number-one album in Japan, making him the second foreign male soloist to achieve this feat after Michael Jackson.
Looking ahead, Daesung will spend much of 2024 in Japan with his “D’s IS ME” Japan Live Tour 2024. The tour will take him to ten cities, including Saitama, Osaka, Kawasaki, Sapporo, and Kobe.
