According to “Melon Data Lab” magazine released by Melon, a Korean music platform, on the 30th of September, NewJeans was the first K-pop girl group to rank first and second in “Melon TOP 100” with their debut songs, “Attention” and “Hype Boy”.
Magazine said, “There have often been girl groups in K-pop history that have topped the Melon chart with their debut songs, but NewJeans is the first to rank both first and second in the ‘TOP 100’ with their debut songs”.
“Attention” ranked 9th in the TOP 100 at midnight on August 2nd, six hours after its release. NewJeans reached the top of the “TOP 100” at 11 p.m. on the 9th of this month, 197 hours later, ranking first in the shortest time as a girl group debut song.
The total number of streaming of the debut album “NewJeans” exceeded 2 million within a day of its release and surpassed 13 million within a week of its release. Currently, it has been about two months since its release, but it is showing potential to remain at the top.
NewJeans is a new five-member girl group led by CEO Min Hee-jin, and has caused a sensation by sweeping various charts since its debut. Fans responded, “Just ‘God+Baby’ (an abbreviation for a baby who can be considered as God)”, over the excellent move of rookie NewJeans.
