How Weverse Shop Got This Big?
Weverse started in June 2019. Weverse Company, HYBE’s platform subsidiary, launched the fan community Weverse and the shopping platform Weverse Shop around the same time.
TOMORROW X TOGETHER was the first artist to join, followed by BTS. In the beginning, Weverse was mainly a place for HYBE artists and their fans. More artists from other agencies joined over time, and the platform gradually expanded beyond HYBE.
Today, Weverse Shop is one of the main places to buy official K-pop albums and merchandise.
Another change came in 2024. Weverse Shop was integrated into the main Weverse app instead of operating as a separate app. The community and shop now sit inside the same app. Fans can check an artist’s posts and updates, then move directly to the Shop tab for albums and merch.
What You Can Buy on Weverse Shop
1. Albums & Exclusive Photocards
Albums are probably the most familiar item on Weverse Shop. But with K-pop albums, the album itself is only part of the purchase. Preorder benefits are often just as important, especially photocards.
Weverse Shop has its own preorder benefits, and the inclusions are different for each release. Some albums come with Weverse Shop-exclusive photocards. Others are sold with Lucky Draw events, where purchases come with a chance to receive additional benefits.
Unreleased photocards are especially popular with collectors. The same album can come with completely different preorder photocards depending on which store you buy it from. Checking the POB before ordering is just part of buying K-pop albums now.
2. Official Light Sticks
Official light sticks are another staple on Weverse Shop. They’re a concert essential for many fans, but they’re also popular as collectibles.
Light sticks don’t always stay the same. New versions are released over the years, sometimes around a new tour. The design and features may change, so longtime fans often end up owning more than one version.
3. Season’s Greetings
Season’s Greetings usually start appearing toward the end of the year. They’re limited packages filled with items such as diaries, calendars, photobooks, and postcards.
The concept and inclusions change every year, and popular releases can sell out quickly. They’ve also become a regular year-end purchase for many international fans.
Official Fan Club Memberships
Official global fan club memberships are also sold through Weverse Shop. They’re technically memberships rather than merchandise and are usually sold on an annual basis.
Benefits vary by artist, but they can include ticket presales, members-only content, and access to exclusive merchandise. For fans who follow an artist closely, the ticketing benefits alone can make a membership important.
Why International Fans Use Weverse Shop
The biggest reason is simple: the products are official. Albums and merchandise come through an official channel connected to the artist and their management. That matters when buying limited merch, preorder benefits, and photocards, especially compared with buying through resellers or stores you don’t know.
When an artist shows a new item on social media or new merch is announced, Weverse Shop is also one of the first places fans check. Weverse supports automatic translation in 15 languages, making the platform accessible to fans outside Korea as well.
International shopping still has its problems, though. Shipping can get expensive, sometimes even more expensive than the item itself. Payment options can differ by country, and limited items can sell out very quickly.
